[ finally, for the first time since they started talking, her shoulders ease and relax. both the omission of information to Naruto and the fact that she had been partnering with Saralegui had been pulling on her since it all started. being able to talk out both those things-

the tension that drains for her is surprising; she hadn't realized she'd been holding onto the stress so tightly. ]

[ sakura fully realizes this is not a subject either of them want to linger on. while the subject change is blatant, she doesn't really mind. ]

You know. I think the three of us, team seven, should start working on the dual wielding.

[sharingan]

[ there's a brief pause, as Sasuke acknowledges the change in topic ]

You too?

[ Naruto had mentioned this before. ]

[sharingan]

[ he watches the tension bleed out of her, the black of his eyes tracing the way every part of her seems to relax. it isn't something Sasuke has often seen, in his short life. ]

You have a mission today?

[haruno]

I do. We're leaving after morning training, going to Iceland.

[sharingan]

Cold.

[ yes sasuke very observant ]

[haruno]

I know that Naruto had wanted to. Plus, if we're able to resonate- Why not try? I think if anyone was able to do something like this, it would be the three of us.

[haruno]

[ she just sort of. laughs. tries to stifle it, failing. ]

Hence the name.

[sharingan]

We'd need flawless resonation.

[ he argues for the sake of it, really. nnd maybe— because he's heard this before. ]

They say the weapons should be siblings.

[ Itachi, the heavy silence afterward screams. ]

[sharingan]

[ he watches her for a long moment, then he nods. Saralegui couldn't be in better hands. Sakura is a lot more level headed than Sasuke has ever been. ]

[haruno]

[ part of her wants to ask after him, because she wants to know how he's doing with that part. with returning and Itachi not being here. but- that's a conversation she imagines Sasuke isn't willing to have.

she offers a thoughtful hum before answering. ]

It's a good thing we have a bond that surpasses that then, isn't it? [ her voice is brighter, fabric rustling over the feed as she shrugs. ] We aren't siblings but you're my family all the same. Both of you. And I believe that if anyone can do it, it's us.

[ she waits until all of them have gone their separate ways following the Watch shift, sends a text to Sasuke before she calls on Naruto. ]

I'm going to ask him what he plans to do when the war is over.

In about thirty seconds.

[ what the hell is he supposed to say to this? Sasuke and Naruto haven't had this conversation in all the timne they've been here. in reality, he's only told Sakura that he plans to stay. he stares at the message for a while. ]

[ it actually calms her some, these responses. they're so predictable for him that it eases her nerves. ]

Do you want to know his answer?

[sharingan]

[ it's not the same, he wants to say. part of him wants to rail against it, throw the raw feeling he has over his brother, the loss of him, against her in a fit of impotent rage.

but he can't do that.
he can't think about it.

he sighs, slow. then concedes:]

We'll see.

[sharingan]

[ no.

yes.

fuck. ]

[ she isn't surprised that Sasuke doesn't continue on the path of siblings, though she does keep it in mind. files it away for a time that isn't now, that isn't in the aftermath of the attack on the city.

instead, her tone takes on a teasing edge, smile obvious just from her voice. ]

No faith in your team mates, Sasuke-kun?

[haruno]

[ Sakura's gaze edges away, catches sight of the clock as her eyes widen just a touch. ]

Oh-! Might be late if I keep you much longer. I'll see you at training?

[sharingan]

[ he nods, and it's as much an agreement as a dismissal ]

[sharingan]

[ there's an uncomfortable pause after her words where Sasuke struggles with the kneejerk reaction to brush off the comment, and being hyperaware of how close it hits to home. the fumble is obvious, but he recovers after a moment: ]

Tch. I didn't say that.

[haruno]

[ ah-

Sakura frowns a little, hums lightly. occasionally she allows herself to forget about how everything happened back home. it's so much easier to focus on the easiness of Death City, so-

slips like that don't always occur to her as she says them. unfortunate results of not lingering at all on the past. ]

Well, you know we'll be here whenever you're ready.

[sharingan]

Che.

[ it isn't exactly a fluster, but he knows they'll be there.

they've proved it up until now, even if sometimes he's not sure he deserves it. ]
